Herbs - The Gateway to becoming a Gardener

When you’re starting out becoming a gardener it is easy to get overwhelmed with all the things you need to know to help keep the plants alive, healthy and producing for you. Everything from soil to seeds, from grow lights to trellis’, from pest protection to preserving your harvest. By the time you’re done researching it can be tempting to throw the shovel in the dirt and call it quits - but don’t!

If you’re feeling this way, starting a herb garden is a fantastic way to build your knowledge and confidence. Not to mention, growing your own herbs is definitely a way to save money at the grocery store. You can start a small container herb garden. Or add some perennials herbs to your existing landscape. Thyme and oregano can make a great border plant. Chives and sage add some height in the garden and flavor in the kitchen. And who doesn’t like lavender by the gate or door with it’s sweet smell calming you down.

You will feel like a master chef whenever your pop outside and grab fresh herbs for your dinner, drinks, or just a garnish on your meal. So grab some of your favorite herbs and plant them at home. You will be pleasantly surprised by this addition to your home and before you know it the confidence to grow a bigger garden has taken root.
