The Seedlings Are Strong
In the darkness of winter, when the days are short and the cold makes me hibernate, that’s when I start prepping for spring. Truthfully, I need to do that to get through some of those days. I started some seedlings outside in January in milk jugs this year for the first time and four of the seven successfully started a ton of seeds.
It was so encouraging to see those seeds start to sprout, even when it is usually still too cold outside to want to do anything with them. But now, spring is officially here according to the calendar and the weather! And those little seedlings have gotten much stronger. Most have moved out of the milk jugs into their own little temporary homes and are enjoying the springtime weather.
Pretty soon the garden beds will be topped with compost and then these seedlings will move to their forever home in my potager. The seeds planted at the start of the year are finally having their moment. Enjoying the sun but not sweltering heat and will reward me with lettuces, cabbage, kale, broccoli…
